Guangzhou Metro

While not currently an extensive Metro system, Guangzhou is rapidly expanding and will soon see an explosion in the number of lines and stations, as well as an update to existing stations.

Opening Times

Stations are open from 06:00 to 23:30 and operate at the following intervals:

Peak Normal After 21:00
Minute
intervals
4-5 6 7.5

The Guangzhou Metro does maintain a timetable and this can be accessed from their website.

Using The Metro

Metro tickets take the form of small plastic coins which are bought from computerized vending machines inside stations. Change booths are available if you have insufficient change for the machines.

Once a coin has been bought you go through the ticket gates by placing the coin on top of the pad and taking it with you. When leaving a station you need to insert the coin into the slot, which will then disappear and the gate will open.

Alternatively you can buy a Metro pass for 80 which can be swiped over the same coin pad.
