Guangzhou to Hong Kong (KCR)
The KCR East Railway travels between Hong Kong (Hung Hom station) and Guangzhou East. The journey time is generally under 2 hours and the train has a food and drinks service
NOTE: You will pass through immigration at both ends of the journey.
You are advised to arrive 45 minutes before the departure time, and gates close 10 minutes before departure.
Tickets can be bought at Hung Hom station in Hong Kong, and in Guangzhou East station. You can also buy tickets 14 days in advance from the KCR website.
Prices are (in Hong Kong dollars):
- $73 for children (stopping at Dong Guan)
- $95 for children (not stopping at Dong Guan)
- $145 for adults (stopping at Dong Guan)
- $190 for adults (not stopping at Dong Guan)
- $230 for premium class (only available on routes marked with *)
The best trains (and certainly most peaceful) are the ones that go straight through. Trains stopping at Dongguan tend to be less clean and more crowded.

Orgainising a trip to the Canton Fair and arriving at Hong Kong Airport. I need to get the express train from Hong Kong Aiport to Guangzhou. Please tell me if the train stops at Guangzhou and what is the station called and how to obtain a train ticket.
Kind regards,
Noreen

Noreen, there is no direct train from the airport to Guangzhou. Instead you will need to take the airport express train into Hong Kong, and then take the KCR train to Guangzhou (details shown on this page). Tickets for the KCR train can be bought in Hung Hom station.

I'll be traveling the same route that Noreen asked about. Does the Airport Express stop right at the Hung Hom Station or do I need to transfer by taxi, bus or MTR?

Rob, yes it does.

I will travel to Hong Kong in January 2008.I wonder, when I arrive to H.K Airport, how I can go
to Guangzhao? I know there is bus service leaving from Airport to Guangzhao but it is expensive.
Any other ways?And how?

From Hong Kong airport take the Airport Express to Hong Kong. Then take the MRT to Hung Hom.(You can walk to MRT just follow the massive crowd). If you dont know how to use the automated ticket machines, just watch a few people or ask attendant for help.

If travelling to Guangzhou via KCR, can you still purchase a visa upon arrival?
Or is it best to do this in Hong Kong before you leave? How long does this take?
Thanks.

Definitely get your visa before you travel to Guangzhou. There are plenty of options in HK and they have an express service (time varies on type of visa you want)

How far is the Canton Fair from the Guangzhou East station?

What's the scenery like? I imagine it would be spectacular, as you are travelling through southern Yunnan, which has some of the most beautiful landscapes in China. What was your experience of it?
Also, the meals which are served on board the train, do they cost extra or are they part of the cost of the ticket? Thanks for helping

You are travelling through Southern Guangdong on this journey, not Yunnan. The scenery is less than spectacular
