Guangzhou to Hong Kong (KCR)
The KCR East Railway travels between Hong Kong (Hung Hom station) and Guangzhou East. The journey time is generally under 2 hours and the train has a food and drinks service
NOTE: You will pass through immigration at both ends of the journey.
You are advised to arrive 45 minutes before the departure time, and gates close 10 minutes before departure.
Tickets can be bought at Hung Hom station in Hong Kong, and in Guangzhou East station. You can also buy tickets 14 days in advance from the KCR website.
Prices are (in Hong Kong dollars):
- $73 for children (stopping at Dong Guan)
- $95 for children (not stopping at Dong Guan)
- $145 for adults (stopping at Dong Guan)
- $190 for adults (not stopping at Dong Guan)
- $230 for premium class (only available on routes marked with *)
The best trains (and certainly most peaceful) are the ones that go straight through. Trains stopping at Dongguan tend to be less clean and more crowded.

A friend and I are traveling to Hongkong for the Paralympic Equestrian events in early Sept. we would like to take some day trips from Hongkong, including to GZ. Any tips to make it easier for us? We have not had the pleasure to visit China before and would like to enjoy 3 or 4 day trips. Thank you.

Definitely get your visa before you travel to Guangzhou. There are plenty of options in HK and they have an express service (time varies on type of visa you want)

If travelling to Guangzhou via KCR, can you still purchase a visa upon arrival?
Or is it best to do this in Hong Kong before you leave? How long does this take?
Thanks.

Hi, I plan to take the train from HK to Guangzhou for the Canton fair, at the time it would be over crowded. I am afraid of full booked on those days. May I know besides buy the ticket at the HK station whether I can order from the website?
